NETGEAR Announces the World’s First Fully Integrated Quad-Play Small Cell Home Gateway for the Alcatel-Lucent Global Network

The NETGEAR MVBR1210C Mobile Broadband Voice Router Allows Mobile Network Operators to Extend Voice Services to Home Phones

SAN JOSE, CA — February 23, 2012 — NETGEAR®, Inc. (NASDAQGM: NTGR),a global networking company that delivers innovative products to consumers, businesses and service providers, announced today that its DEVG2000F Small Cell Home Gateway is now available for network integration by service providers with an Alcatel-Lucent Mobile network infrastructure. The DEVG2000F is the result of a long-term collaboration with Broadcom Corporation and Alcatel-Lucent to lower costs, deliver higher performance and expand mobile coverage for service providers.

The DEVG2000F quad-play small cell home gateway offers significant benefits to service providers operating both mobile and fixed line networks. Operators can now expand 3G HSPA+ Mobile coverage beyond the reach of their existing footprint to fixed line customers at home, assure Quality of Service (QoS) to mobile devices, and seamlessly move traffic from macrocells to small cells, increasing spectrum utilization efficiency. Footprint expansion drives higher ARPU from added mobile voice, media access and innovative applications via the NETGEAR Smart Network Cloud Application Platform. Subscribers at home, in business offices and in public hot spots benefit from expanded network coverage and capacity, enjoying longer battery life and faster data services on their mobile devices. Mobile operators further benefit from reduced OPEX with the extension of network management into their customers’ premises.

NETGEAR DEVG2000F Small Cell Home Gateway
The DEVG2000F is a fully integrated small cell home gateway that uses fixed broadband access to deliver 3G HSPA+ data rates of up to 21.6Mbps downstream / 5.76Mbps upstream to up to 8 mobile clients. It also integrates four Ethernet ports and N300 802.11n WiFi. Mobile broadband performance to handsets rivals that of fixed broadband access due to the small path loss offered by small cells to the mobile devices combined with use of fixed broadband to backhaul network traffic. The DEVG2000F also includes dual WAN for failover and back-up for network access. Voice is delivered to mobile devices via the integrated small cell and to wired handsets via VoIP, using service providers’ IP Multimedia subsystems (IMS), enabling consumers to choose mobile or existing landline numbers while at home. With the NETGEAR Smart Network Cloud Application Platform infrastructure, mobile operators have an option to provide value-added services to their customers by developing apps for small cells, just as they do for mobile handsets and tablets.

“The NETGEAR DEVG2000F Small Cell Gateway, developed in partnership with Broadcom and Alcatel-Lucent, provides reliable, affordable and consistent 5-bar 3G coverage, data and voice services – all from a single box,” said Michael Clegg, GM & SVP, Service Provider business unit at NETGEAR. “The DEVG2000F can be seamlessly integrated with mobile and fixed broadband network infrastructures used by many of our service provider customers, and is a key addition to our growing CPE product portfolio.”

“Fueling innovation in small cell home gateway technology, Broadcom continues its partnership with NETGEAR and Alcatel-Lucent to develop the world’s first fully integrated Small Cell Residential Gateway product enabled for the Alcatel-Lucent global network,” said Greg Fischer, vice president and general manager for carrier access products at Broadcom. “Driving the market to realize the benefits of fixed mobile convergence, we look forward to further design innovation with market-leading companies, NETGEAR and Alcatel-Lucent.”

The Alcatel-Lucent Small Cell end to end solution, selected by 31 mobile operators for commercial service, offers an end-to-end carrier-grade, fully integrated, Self- Organizing small cell Network supporting the NETGEAR DEVG2000F 3G Small Cell Home gateway, Small Cell Gateway and network management architecture.

“Alcatel-Lucent applauds the vision and leadership shown by NETGEAR in its approach to small cell network integration, and we look forward to working with mutual service provider partners to provide the highest possible mobile and fixed line service performance levels to our customers,” said Yannick Dupuch, General Manager Small Cells, Alcatel-Lucent. “The application-ready NETGEAR DEVG2000F Small Cell Home Gateway, along with our Small Cell IMS infrastructure, will empower Mobile Network operators to create revolutionary value-added services.”
